There are two other subjects on which Honourable Members may expect me to comment. The Government House and City Development scheme (Appendix VII) shows an anti- cipated expenditure of $250,000 largely in preparatory work on the new Government House site at Magazine Gap. In these uncertain times the Government will proceed very cautiously with this scheme progress being dependent on the provision of funds from the sale of the remaining portion of the City Hall and other sites included in the scheme. It is not a favourable moment for the sale of valuable sites and progress will probably be slow until times improve.
Loan Works

The other subject is that of the Loan Works.
The success of the 1934 Loan which makes the continuation of these works possible is referred to in the Treasurer's memorandum and is a flattering indication of the public faith in the Colony's financial stability.
My Honourable friend the Director of Public Works has given detailed information regarding the loan works for which he is responsible and I am indebted to the Resident Engineer for the following information regarding the largest and most important of our loan works viz the Shing Mun Valley Gorge Dam.
